October Wedding Inspiration in Ireland | Real Wedding Stories
I have to confess that I haven’t actually been to a wedding in October myself. I really must sort that out! Thankfully, when I asked my followers if anyone would like to feature in my October wedding blog, three gorgeous brides came to the rescue.
Mary, Eilis and Lorraine are sharing their wedding experiences, favourite memories and advice for couples planning their own celebrations.
If you’re currently organising your wedding, I hope their stories give you a little inspiration and reassurance along the way.
Mary and David’s October Wedding in Wexford
Mary and David got married on 22 October 2016 in Wexford. Mary absolutely loved having an October wedding.

She felt there was a special atmosphere in the air at that time of year. She also loved the beautiful light for their photographs, explaining that there was no harsh sunshine causing glare or squinting.
And because Mary adores candles, an autumn wedding gave her the perfect excuse to fill the church and reception venue with candlelight. Personally, I think candles are acceptable all year round — so romantic!
They also incorporated fresh pumpkins into their venue decorations, creating a fun seasonal look alongside the warm glow of the candles.

Wedding Advice from Mary: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
Mary has some brilliant advice for anyone planning their wedding.
1. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Once your wedding day arrives, you’ve done everything you can to prepare. Let go of the little things and enjoy the celebration. There will be plenty of people around you to sort out any minor mishaps, so you don’t need to take everything on yourself.
2. Remember that it’s YOUR wedding.
Everyone can have an opinion when you’re planning a wedding, but the important thing is to choose what you and your partner want. Don’t feel pressured into making decisions just because a relative or friend thinks you should do things differently!

3. Have fun with wedding DIY.
Making some of your own wedding details, such as place cards or favours, can add a lovely personal touch. It can also save you a few euro!
Why not invite your bridesmaids over for a girlie night in and get creative together? You’ll have fun, make memories and have something special to look back on.
4. Consider having a wedding send-off.
Mary and David planned to leave their reception around midnight to head off on their honeymoon, although they ended up staying a little later!
One thing they particularly loved was having their family and friends wave them off as they began their married life together. They found it exciting not to be the last people leaving the wedding, and the send-off became a really special memory.
I absolutely love this idea! It’s a lovely way to end your wedding celebrations.
Eilis and Mikey’s Autumn Wedding in Ireland
Eilis and Mikey celebrated their first wedding anniversary after getting married on 18 October 2019.
They married in Castlecomer, with their reception at the Lord Bagenal Hotel in Carlow.
Autumn is Eilis’ favourite season, so she wanted to bring that feeling into their wedding day. It’s a lovely reminder that choosing a season you love can help you create a celebration that feels personal to you.
For their honeymoon, the couple headed to Las Vegas and Cancun. What a way to celebrate!
Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress
Eilis wore a Martina Liana wedding dress, which she found through Aibheil in Adare.
It took some searching to find the dress she wanted in Ireland, but she knew when she saw it that it was the one for her.
Sometimes, you just know!

Wedding Advice from Eilis: Make the Most of Every Moment
Eilis shared some wonderful advice for couples planning their own wedding.
1. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
Just like Mary, Eilis found that everything had a way of falling into place. Try not to let small details overshadow the bigger picture.
2. Take ten minutes to yourself.
After getting into her wedding dress, Eilis took ten minutes alone to compose herself before the celebrations began. She found this time really helpful.
It’s a lovely idea if you want a quiet moment to take everything in before the excitement starts.
3. Make decisions that feel right for you.
Do what you and your partner want. It’s your wedding day, so make it a reflection of the two of you.
4. Get on that dance floor!
Eilis believes the secret to keeping the dance floor full is for the bride and groom to be out there themselves. She and Mikey hardly left it all night!
5. Take it all in.
Your wedding day can pass in a flash, and Eilis says it’s hard to prepare yourself for just how quickly it goes. Pause throughout the day, look around at the people who have come to celebrate with you and savour those little moments.
6. Be kind to yourself after the wedding.
Eilis also mentioned experiencing the wedding blues. After months of planning and one very special day, it’s understandable to miss the excitement and build-up.
Remember that the wedding is the beginning of your married life together, and there are plenty of lovely moments still to come.
A special mention goes to Eilis’ Aunt Mary, who made their wedding cake. What a lovely personal touch!

Lorraine and Fran’s October Wedding Day
Lorraine got married in October 2019 and has plenty of brilliant advice for couples planning their own wedding.
She’s also a busy businesswoman! Lorraine runs The Hidden Greeting., an online Irish card shop. Definitely worth a look if you’re searching for something a little different!
October Wedding Ideas: Personal Touches, Comfortable Shoes and Candlelit Details
Lorraine’s wedding advice is particularly helpful if you’re planning an autumn wedding in Ireland.
1. Choose wedding shoes that work for you.
Lorraine loves her heels, but she knew she’d be on her feet for more than 13 hours on her wedding day. She decided to bring a beautiful pair of sparkly flats, giving her the comfort she needed without losing that special bridal touch.

2. Make the little details personal.
Your wedding guests might remember the food, drinks and band, but personal touches can help make the day feel uniquely yours.
Lorraine’s dining hall was already stunning and didn’t need much extra decoration. Even so, she was delighted that they had taken time to choose their table centrepieces and add signs and little details around the venue.
It’s a lovely reminder that you don’t need to spend a fortune decorating every corner. Choose the details that mean something to you.

3. Don’t let the rain ruin your photographs.
Lorraine and Fran got married on the weekend that Storm Lorenzo’s tail end affected Ireland. Rather than letting the weather spoil their plans, they embraced it and insisted on getting photographs in the rain.
As Lorraine says, getting soaked is part of the fun!

If you’re planning an October wedding in Ireland, it’s worth talking to your photographer about a wet-weather plan. Umbrellas, a spare pair of shoes and a little flexibility can help you make the most of whatever the day brings. And be sure to check out my Wedding Day Rain Checklist
4. Make time for just the two of you.
After spending months or even years planning your wedding, it’s important to pause and enjoy the day together.
Lorraine and Fran’s wedding coordinator gave them 30 minutes to relax, eat some canapés, enjoy a drink and catch up on everything that had happened so far.
They even took a sneaky selfie to mark the moment!
I think this is such lovely advice. Ask your venue or coordinator if they can build a little private time into your wedding schedule. You’ll be glad you did.

5. Tell your favourite people how much they mean to you.
Lorraine recommends considering a short speech to thank the people closest to you for their love and support.
If you’re comfortable speaking in front of a crowd, it can be a beautiful opportunity to express your gratitude and create another special memory.
6. Trust your wedding suppliers and relax!
Lorraine’s final piece of advice is a good one: relax!
Your wedding coordinator and suppliers, including your hairdresser, makeup artist, celebrant and musicians, are experienced professionals who are there to help everything run smoothly.
If a little hiccup happens, try to laugh it off. You may not even notice that anything went wrong!
How to Enjoy Your October Wedding Without the Stress
After hearing from Mary, Eilis and Lorraine, there are a few themes that stand out.
If you’re getting married this October, or planning an October wedding for a future year, here are some reminders worth keeping close:
- Embrace the season. Candles, pumpkins and autumn-inspired details can create a warm, romantic atmosphere.
- Have a wet-weather plan. Talk to your photographer about indoor options and photographs in the rain.
- Prioritise comfort. Your wedding outfit should make you feel wonderful, but comfortable shoes can make a long day much easier.
- Make it personal. DIY details, meaningful decorations and thoughtful speeches can help make your celebration feel like yours.
- Build in breathing space. Take a few minutes alone, spend time with your partner and don’t feel you have to be everywhere at once.
- Let the small things go. Your wedding doesn’t have to be perfect in every detail to be a beautiful day.
Most importantly, remember that your wedding is about celebrating your relationship with the people you love. Don’t let the pressure of planning take away from the excitement of getting married.
