Meet May | The Woman Behind My Wedding Shop
Hello you!
If you’ve been browsing My Wedding Shop, reading my wedding planning guides or shopping for something special for a bride-to-be, you might already know a little about what I do. But do you know the person behind the planners, bridal gifts and all things wedding?
Well, I thought it was about time we got properly acquainted!
I’m May Phillips, founder of My Wedding Shop, and I’m delighted you’re here. So, grab yourself a cuppa (or your first coffee of the day, if you’re anything like me!) and let me tell you a little about myself, the story behind my business and why helping brides enjoy their wedding planning journey means so much to me.

My Wedding Shop is an Irish bridal business founded by May Phillips, offering wedding planning essentials, thoughtful bridal gifts and helpful resources to make the journey from engagement to wedding day feel more organised, enjoyable and exciting.
A Little Bit About Me
Let’s start with the basics!
I’m 44, the eldest child, a pizza enthusiast and completely coffee obsessed. I believe friendship is everything, love meeting my friends for dinner and will rarely say no to a date day with my husband.
My ideal little comforts include that first coffee of the day, a good catch-up with friends, watching Gilmore Girls and listening to ABBA, Elton John and Bruce Springsteen.
Basically, give me good company, good food and good music, and I’m happy!
But, as with everyone, there’s another side to life that doesn’t always make it onto Instagram.
Living With Chronic Migraine
One thing that’s a big part of my life is chronic migraine.

If you know, you know. And if you don’t, let me tell you that it can be incredibly frustrating.
There are many times when I’ve had to cancel plans with friends, miss family catch-ups and spend hours in bed when I’d much rather have been out enjoying life. Missing kids’ activities and everyday moments because of migraine is difficult, especially when all you want to do is get on with things.
I’m sharing this because I think it’s important to be honest about life behind the scenes. Running a business, looking after family and trying to keep up with everything can be challenging, and sometimes things don’t go to plan.
It’s also a reminder that you never really know what someone else might be dealing with behind the scenes.
So, if you’re juggling a busy life while planning your wedding, please remember to give yourself a little grace, too. You don’t have to do everything at once, and your wedding planning journey doesn’t need to be perfect to be wonderful.
From 15 Years in HR to Running My Own Business
Before My Wedding Shop, I spent 15 years working in HR.
Leaving the corporate world to build my own business was a daunting step. Walking away from something familiar and putting your energy into something you’ve created yourself takes courage and there were certainly some nerves along the way.

But I’m so glad I took the leap.
My Wedding Shop has given me the opportunity to build something of my own, bring my ideas to life and connect with people who are planning one of the most exciting occasions of their lives.
It’s not always easy running a small business. There are plenty of different hats to wear, lots to learn and always something else to do! But being able to create products that I genuinely care about makes it worthwhile.
And every order, kind message and bit of support means more than you might realise.
Why I Started My Wedding Shop
Here’s the part that really matters.
My Wedding Shop was inspired by my own wedding planning experience and the bridal products I wished I’d had when I was planning our wedding.
I know how exciting it is to be newly engaged. There are so many lovely things to look forward to, from choosing your wedding style and celebrating with your bridal party to imagining what your big day will look like.
But there can also be a lot to think about!
From keeping track of all those little jobs to remembering important dates, organising the details and finding thoughtful gifts for the people who mean the most to you, wedding planning can quickly become overwhelming.
I wanted to create a place where brides could find practical wedding planning essentials alongside thoughtful gifts for all those special bridal moments.
That’s how My Wedding Shop grew into the business it is today: a place for wedding planning tools, bridal party gifts, engagement gifts and little touches that help make the journey to ‘I do’ even more special.
My aim is simple: to help busy, overwhelmed brides feel calm, organised and excited from ‘Yes!’ to ‘I do’.
My Wedding Planner | Helping You Stay Organised From ‘Yes!’ to ‘I Do’
One of the most important products in my business is My Wedding Planner, my multi-award-winning wedding planning tool.
Wedding planning involves so many moving parts, and it’s easy to feel as though you have a million things running through your head at once.
A dedicated wedding planner gives you one place to organise your ideas, keep track of your to-do list and work through the different stages of planning your day.
Rather than trying to remember everything, you can write it down, break it into manageable tasks and enjoy the satisfaction of ticking things off as you go.
Whether you’re newly engaged and wondering where to begin or already working your way through your wedding checklist, having a plan can help you feel more in control.
If you’re just starting your wedding planning journey, have a look at My Wedding Planner and explore the wedding planning essentials available at My Wedding Shop.
It’s Not Just About the Wedding Planner!
Of course, wedding planning is about much more than lists and deadlines.
It’s also about the people who are there for you along the way.
Your bridesmaids, Maid of Honour, parents and other special people all play their own part in your wedding journey. Whether they’re helping you make decisions, organising your hen party, offering a listening ear or simply keeping you laughing when things get stressful, they deserve a little love, too.
That’s why My Wedding Shop also offers thoughtful gifts for special bridal moments, including:
- Engagement Gifts: Celebrate that wonderful ‘We’re engaged!’ moment with a thoughtful gift for the happy couple.
- Bridesmaid Proposal Gifts: Ask your favourite people to stand beside you on your wedding day with a special keepsake.
- Bridal Party Gifts: Thank your bridesmaids and other important people for being part of your journey.
- Wedding Keepsakes: Find meaningful touches to remember the special moments surrounding your wedding.
I love the idea that something from My Wedding Shop might become part of a lovely memory, whether it’s a gift given when someone says yes to being a bridesmaid or a wedding planner that helps a bride feel more organised in the months before her big day.
It’s those little moments that make it all so special.
My Approach to Wedding Planning | Keep It Enjoyable!
If there’s one thing I’d love every bride-to-be to remember, it’s this: your wedding planning journey is something to experience and enjoy, not just a list of jobs to get through.
Of course, there are decisions to make, budgets to manage and deadlines to meet. But there should also be time to enjoy being engaged, celebrate with your favourite people and look forward to the life you’re building together.
Here are a few little reminders I’d share with any bride planning her wedding in Ireland.
1. Take It One Step at a Time
You don’t need to have every detail figured out the moment you get engaged. Start with the big priorities, work through your tasks in a sensible order and give yourself time to make decisions.
2. Keep Your Wedding To-Do List Somewhere You Can Find It
A wedding checklist or planner can help you keep track of what needs doing, what you’ve already organised and what’s coming up next. Getting everything out of your head and onto paper can make the whole process feel more manageable.
3. Make Time for the Fun Stuff
Don’t let the practical jobs take over completely. Make time for date nights, wedding dress appointments, celebrations with your bridal party and those little moments you’ll remember long after the wedding.
4. Ask for Help When You Need It
You don’t have to do everything yourself. Your partner, family and bridal party may be delighted to help, so let them! Delegating a few tasks can free up time and take some pressure off your shoulders.
5. Remember That Your Wedding Is Yours
It’s lovely to gather ideas and take inspiration from other weddings, but you don’t need to do everything everyone else is doing. Choose the details that matter to you as a couple and make decisions that feel right for you.
And most importantly, don’t forget to enjoy being engaged. This is a special chapter in your story, too!
May’s Wedding Tip
My biggest piece of advice? You don’t need to plan your entire wedding in one day.
Choose a starting point, make a manageable list of your next steps and focus on what’s in front of you. When you have a clear plan, it’s much easier to see what needs your attention now and what can wait until later.
And if you need a little help along the way, that’s exactly why I’ve created the My Wedding Shop wedding planning guides. They’re here to give you practical advice, helpful reminders and inspiration as you work towards your big day.
