Engagement Card Keepsake Idea

One of the loveliest parts of getting engaged is opening all of those beautiful cards filled with love, excitement and heartfelt messages from your family and friends.

But once the celebrations are over, what do you actually do with them?

Like many brides, I carefully tucked mine away in a box under the bed, promising myself that one day I’d find a better way to keep them safe. Years passed, and every now and then I’d come across the box and think, “I really must do something with those.”

If you’re anything like me and love stationery, photographs and meaningful keepsakes, then I have a simple DIY project you’ll love.

I decided to turn all of my engagement cards into a beautiful keepsake book so that I can flick through them whenever I want and read all those wonderful messages again. It was surprisingly easy to make and has become one of my favourite engagement keepsakes.

In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how to make your own DIY Engagement Card Keepsake Book.

Before you start making your keepsake book, I’ve created a free printable cover that you can download and use for your own Engagement Memories Book. You can also edit too to make it more personalised with your names and year of engagement

Simply print it onto good quality card, punch your holes, and you’ve got a beautiful personalised cover ready to go.

It’s my little gift to help you preserve one of the happiest moments of your engagement.

What You’ll Need

  • Your engagement cards
  • My free printable Engagement Memories cover (or create your own!)
  • Two pieces of sturdy cardboard (slightly larger than your biggest card)
  • Decorative paper, stickers or embellishments
  • Your favourite engagement photograph
  • Glue stick
  • Two book rings
  • Hole punch
  • Ruler

Step 1: Arrange Your Cards

Before you start punching any holes, lay all of your engagement cards out on a table.

Because cards come in lots of different shapes and sizes, decide how you’d like your book to flow.

I chose to arrange mine from the smallest card to the largest, which created a lovely progression throughout the book. If your cards vary a lot in size, you might prefer to mix them up to avoid noticeable gaps.

There isn’t a right or wrong way—choose whatever looks best to you.

Step 2: Punch Your Holes

Using a hole punch, carefully make two holes along the fold of each card.

Punching along the crease means you’ll still be able to open every card and read all the beautiful messages inside.

Don’t forget to punch matching holes in your cardboard front and back covers too. Measuring the hole placement first will help everything line up neatly.

Step 3: Assemble Your Keepsake Book

Finding individual book rings proved harder than I expected as lots are sold in packets of 100’s.  These ones are good if you want to check them out here

Simply thread all of your cards onto the book rings along with your front and back covers.

Instantly, your pile of cards becomes a keepsake you’ll treasure forever.

Step 4: Create Your Cover

This was definitely my favourite part.

You have two options:

Option 1 (The Easy Way)

Download my free Engagement Memories Cover here, print it onto card and attach it to the front of your keepsake book.

Option 2

Design your own cover using one of your favourite engagement photographs, embellishments, stickers or ribbon.

I chose one of our favourite engagement photos and decorated it with little keepsakes that reminded me of that exciting chapter of our lives.

A Keepsake You’ll Treasure Forever

Instead of hiding your engagement cards away in a box, you’ll now have a beautiful memory book that you can enjoy for years to come.

I love the idea of taking it out each year around our engagement anniversary and reading through all the lovely messages again.

It’s amazing how many special memories come flooding back.

The best part?

This idea isn’t just for engagement cards.

You could also create keepsake books for:

  • Wedding cards
  • Baby shower cards
  • Christening cards
  • Birthday cards
  • Anniversary cards
  • Retirement cards

It’s such a simple way to preserve life’s happiest moments.

Why I Created This Free Printable

When I finally made my own keepsake book, I realised lots of brides probably have their engagement cards tucked away in a drawer just like I did.

Rather than leaving those lovely messages hidden away, I wanted to make it easy for you to create something you’ll treasure forever.

That’s why I designed this free printable cover—to help you turn a pile of engagement cards into a keepsake you’ll enjoy looking through for years to come.
