Getting Married in the Month of May | May Bride | A May Bride Is

You are in luck because this month’s wedding blog features four stunning real Irish weddings, all from brides who tied the knot in May. From sunny outdoor ceremonies to intimate family celebrations, these real weddings are filled with inspiration, practical advice, and thoughtful wedding planning tips for every bride-to-be.

May is such a magical month for weddings in Ireland. The longer evenings, blooming flowers, brighter weather, and relaxed atmosphere make it one of the most popular months for couples planning a summer wedding.

What Are the Best Wedding Ideas for a May Wedding in Ireland?

One of the best things about a May wedding is the opportunity to embrace the beauty of the start of summer. Think outdoor drinks receptions, colourful flower arrangements, golden evening light for photos, and lighter bridal styles.

This month I am featuring four real weddings that took place across Ireland, each with unique wedding ideas and advice from real brides.

Whether you are planning a large celebration or a smaller intimate wedding, these brides share honest tips that can help make your wedding day even more special.

Real May Wedding Inspiration at Mount Juliet Estate

Caitríona and Kieran got married on an absolute scorcher of a day at the stunning Mount Juliet Estate. Their relaxed approach to the day created such a beautiful atmosphere and allowed them to truly enjoy every moment.

It was such an honour to be part of Caitríona’s bridal party, especially during such a memorable celebration.

Wedding Photography Tips Every Bride Should Know

Caitríona’s biggest wedding tip was to plan your family and group photographs in advance.

While candid moments are wonderful, she recommends creating a short list of important family combinations beforehand so no meaningful photo is forgotten. For example, she later realised she never got a photo with just her brother.

She also advises brides to speak with their wedding photographer about using multiple photo locations throughout the venue. Although their wedding took place in such a gorgeous setting, most group photos were taken against the same ivy wall.

Using different backdrops around your venue creates much more variety in your wedding album and helps capture the atmosphere of the day beautifully.

And can we take a moment for Caitríona’s Mum’s outfit? Absolutely stunning.

What Are Unique Ideas for a Summer Wedding?

Cathy and Brendan celebrated their wedding day at Coolbawn Quay after marrying in Terryglass.

One of the most unique parts of their wedding day was stopping at a bright yellow rapeseed field on the way to their venue for wedding photographs. The vibrant summer colours created incredible wedding portraits that perfectly captured the season.

They also travelled by boat to their venue, which added such a memorable and personal touch to the day.

Digital Wedding Invitations for Modern Brides

Cathy’s top wedding planning tip was sending wedding invitations digitally by email.

For many modern couples, digital invites can:

  • Save money
  • Reduce stress
  • Help with RSVP tracking
  • Be more environmentally friendly

This is especially useful for destination weddings or couples with guests living abroad.

What Wedding Tips Do Real Brides Recommend?

Zita and Gordon celebrated their wedding in Castlerosse Park Resort and shared some wonderful advice for couples currently planning their wedding.

One of their biggest decisions was only inviting guests they both personally knew. This helped keep the wedding intimate, relaxed, and meaningful.

Meaningful Ways to Include Family in Your Wedding

Zita comes from a large family and found thoughtful ways to involve everyone in the celebration.

Family members participated in:

  • Readings
  • Prayers of the faithful
  • Bridesmaid roles
  • Flower girl and page boy duties

This is such a lovely reminder that weddings are about connection, memories, and including the people who matter most to you.

DIY Wedding Ideas That Feel Personal

Gordon even made their wedding cake and muffins himself, while together they created personalised wedding favours inspired by childhood memories.

Personal touches like these often become the most talked-about and memorable parts of a wedding day.

Should You Have a Small Wedding Ceremony?

Siobhan and Alan married during the May Bank Holiday weekend at Barberstown Castle.

They chose to have a spiritualist ceremony and included their daughter in a beautiful sand ceremony, creating a deeply personal experience for everyone present.

Why Smaller Weddings Can Feel More Meaningful

The couple decided on a smaller intimate ceremony followed by a larger evening celebration.

This worked perfectly for them because:

  • It reduced pressure
  • Created a more relaxed atmosphere
  • Allowed more quality time with close family
  • Made the ceremony feel deeply personal

Siobhan also shared that although they initially avoided posing for lots of photographs, they later wished they had prepared a short list of meaningful photo moments they wanted captured.

It is such a good reminder that your wedding should reflect your personalities and priorities.

What Should a Bride Know Before Getting Married in May?

If you are planning a May wedding in Ireland, here are a few final tips:

  • Always prepare for unpredictable Irish weather
  • Use seasonal flowers for a fresh summer feel
  • Schedule sunset photos to capture beautiful evening light
  • Build quiet moments into your timeline so you can truly enjoy the day
  • Prioritise meaningful experiences over perfection

Most importantly, remember that the best weddings are the ones that genuinely reflect the couple.
