My Very First Blog

Why why why ….
Why did I create “My Wedding Planner”?
Why am I still promoting it?
Why write a blog?

With so many “why’s”, let’s start at the beginning. When Niall proposed on Christmas Day I honestly had absolutely no idea where to start in planning our wedding as I was one of the first of my friends to get engaged. I spent too much money on buying different wedding planners and wedding magazines and they still didn’t have the detail I wanted (as pretty as they might be – I love a bit of stationery).

These planners were very generic, lacked detail and had too many pages asking you to write about “your first date” etc and there was nothing specific for getting married in Ireland. And so I bought endless folders (more stationery), printed lots and created a minefield of spreadsheets.

Announcing Our Engagement

Then on honeymoon over a bottle of wine in South Africa (I will never forget it) we were chatting about our wedding and all the planning that went into it and I was saying to Niall that there is a market for an Irish wedding planner and I got very animated about it. In true Niall fashion he said “So create one”! And so “My Wedding Planner” was born!

On Honeymoon in South Africa discussing the concept of “My Wedding Planner”

Months and months of work went into creating it and when I started working with the illustrator I found out I was pregnant! Naively I then thought this would be something I could finish when I was on maternity leave!! It was such a daunting task and the day we gave the go ahead for the first print-run I was a bag of nerves! It can still be daunting for example creating my brand new website but you have to keep it refreshed and I am starting to see more planners enter the market but as Marissa Carter said “Her success is not your failure. Support women. You are one”. And so I will continue to think BIG for 2018.

So many different versions and drafts before I achieved the final product

I am not a blogger (yet!), but I wanted to share my story with you and if you are interested I can start writing a few blogs but I am not sure where I will get the time, as another “why” I get it is “why do you do it” or more “how do you find time to work on the planner”. I work in HR by day and at night I work on the planner. We have three small kids and they are my #1. Even they get excited seeing the planners go out! My eldest Seán, who is five said to me last night you will need a trailer to bring the planners to Fastway (I wish!)! Oh and yes, last year we built a house after our third child was born (as if we aren’t busy enough). In truth I do it because I love it and when I get reviews, emails and message from customers loving the planner is makes it all worthwhile. It is true what they say “if you want something done ask a busy person”
